Q: What is Naturopathy?
Naturopathy promotes optimal health and wellness by empowering you to take charge of your own health. Using the healing power of nature the naturopath treats the whole person, assessing not only their physical symptoms, but also their mental & emotional health, nutrition & lifestyle factors and environment. Ultimately naturopathy encompasses good nutrition, a balanced lifestyle, herbal medicine and the correction of nutritional imbalances with vitamin and mineral supplementation.
Q: What can I expect from a consultation?
After taking a comprehensive health history and discussing your concerns, including what your main goals are, I will make dietary and nutritional recommendations, advise you on any supplements that would be of benefit to you, prescribe any herbal medicines, and discuss lifestyle options. This will then be put together in a treatment plan specific to your needs. At times additional testing or a referral may be recommended.
Q: What Nutritional and Lifestyle Advice will you provide?
A nutritionally rich diet can significantly improve your health and well being. Many conditions both acute and chronic can be improved by changing what you eat and many of the health problems we see today are largely due to the western diet and the increased amount of processed foods we eat. By gradually implementing changes you can have a positive impact on your health and play a large role in disease prevention. “You really are what you eat.”
Lifestyle advice includes recommendations and ideas for things such as exercise, relaxation, sleep assistance, stress management and forms part of the total treatment plan alongside nutritional advice, herbal medicine and supplements.
Q: What happens after the initial consultation?
A follow up appointment is really important and depending on the issue we are treating, several follow-ups may be needed. The first one is usually 2-3 weeks after the initial consultation, and then the remainder at variable intervals after that. At a follow-up we will see how you are feeling, and how you are getting on with the treatment plan. We can then make any dietary changes necessary and review the supplements and herbal medicines.
Q: Will I notice changes immediately?
A: Sometimes you will notice some changes quite quickly but usually it takes some time before you start to feel an improvement. Therefore it is important to continue as best you can with the recommended treatment programme in order to gain the best results.
Q: What is Herbal Medicine?
Herbal medicine can be used to treat almost any medical condition, both acute and chronic. It is made exclusively from plants and through scientific research is increasingly being accepted as a valid and effective treatment for health conditions. Herbal medicine is individually prescribed in combination with diet, lifestyle advice and supplements as required.
Q: What are Vitamins and Supplements?
Vitamin and mineral supplements are often required to address nutritional deficiencies that are becoming more common due to the depletion of minerals in our soils, highly processed foods and food choices. Magnesium is a good example of a mineral that is often deficient in the general population. Magnesium is important for sleep, muscle relaxation and stress management. Once again these are individually prescribed in conjunction with diet, lifestyle advice and herbal medicine as required.
Q: What is Naturopathic Testing?
A comprehensive range of functional pathology testing is offered to assess your hormonal, digestive and nutritional status which assists in providing the best possible treatment. Depending on the test, either a blood, saliva, urine or stool sample is required.
Why the price variations?
